What's Special About Appalachian Wood?

Covington United Methodist Church Door

The rolling hills and gentle mountains of Appalachia are a beauty to view. But beneath the pleasant hues of green and blue is an inner beauty that contains a valuable raw material. That raw material is wood, and manufacturers have learned over the past seven decades that the finest lumber in the world comes from the Appalachian mountains.

Slow maturity means tight growth rings, strong fibers and consistent grain patterns that give Appalachian lumber its coveted beauty, strength and durability.

Since the 1920s Appalachian oaks, cherry, maple, poplar, ash, beech, basswood, birch, hickory and walnut have set the standard for hardwood products and materials across the globe.
